ABOUT THE POKANOKA’S RUN & WALK FUNDRAISER
FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR SAFE PASSAGE !
On Wednesday, July 4th, 2018, at 8 AM, Pokanoka’s Café will host the 6th Annual Pokanoka’s Trail Run/Walk at Shabbona Lake State Park. The Trail Run/Walk will be a fundraising event for Safe Passage, DeKalb County’s only Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault crisis center. The mission of Safe Passage is to reduce or prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.
Safe Passage offers a wide range of services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their family members. Their free and confidential services include an emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotline (815.756.5228), counseling, legal and medical advocacy, and a partner abuse intervention program. Established in 1981, Safe Passage continues to grow in an effort to serve more survivors and their families. To learn more about Safe Passage, visit www.safepassagedv.org.
The Trail Run will be approximately 8 miles long. The run will be along wooded trails and open prairie lands, as the runners circle around scenic Shabbona Lake. The Walk will be a circle loop thru approximately 1.8 miles of historic woods in Shabbona Lake State Park.
Shabbona Lake State Park is located in Southern DeKalb County approximately 25 miles Southwest of DeKalb, Illinois. The Park attracts approximately 475,000 visitors a year.
The 8 mile Trail Race/Walk will be timed by RACE TIME, Inc. from Winfield, Illinois. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following 8 categories: Male, Female, 18 & Under, 19-34, 35-49 and 50 & over.
Trail Walkers will leisurely walk the 1.8 miles at their own pace.
Sign up fees: $30 for Runners and $15 for Walkers.
